What are trintellix side effects? If you are a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a therapist, or even just a highly intelligent human being. You might be aware of the main mental disorder faced by the human population these days. If you guessed it to be depression, you guessed it right.

Depression and anxiety are the two most commonly faced mental disorders faced by humans of all ages in this era. Moreover, this mental disorder isn’t only faced by adults aged 70+ years like what we heard used to happen many years ago. Rather, it is experienced by young children as well. This is why child specialists and psychiatrists earn a good living by diagnosing and consulting these mentally disturbed patients.

Trintellix is an antidepressant drug prescribed to those suffering from depression. Although it is as common as Benadryl, it is not an over-the-counter medicine and has side effects, which we will discuss in this article.

What is Trintellix?

When you suffer from depression, the chemicals inside your brain get unbalanced. Trintellix helps balance these chemicals in your brain. The main cure it offers is Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). It is the new name of Brintellix which was mixed up with Brilinta (an anti-blood clotting therapy medicine).

What is Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)?

The highest level of depression is referred to as MDD which begins with a gloomy mood during the day and night and eventually leads to suicidal thoughts. in depression, a person feels down and upset because of the sad occurrences that happened in his life. He or she also feels slightly worthless and stops taking interest in any daily activity, be it going to work or hanging out with friends. However, MDD is a higher level in which a person starts feeling worthless and neglected and this feeling leads him to believe he is a burden on the face of the earth.

Trintellix side effects

Of course, a heavy medicine that is meant to cure depression must have side effects as well. These may come in light, moderate, or heavy attacks depending upon the dose the person takes.

Mild side effects

If you take a light dose of Trintellix, you may experience:

  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Dry mouth
  • Diarrhea

These side effects are usually one-time occurrences that go away once your body gets used to the drug.

Moderate side effects

If your dose is increased a bit, you might experience these side effects:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth
  • Itching
  • Diarrhea

Even though you experience these side effects, you must not stop taking Trintellix unless your doctor says so.

Serious side effects of Trintellix

Increasing the dose of Trintellix will lead to the following symptoms:

  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Allergic reactions
  • Bleeding
  • Low sodium levels
  • Sexual side effects
  • Hypomania

In case of these occurrences, a doctor must be visited as soon as possible.

Trintellix Side effects explained

Before visiting a doctor, you must be aware of the initial cures of Trintellix side effects.

Suicidal thoughts

Even though Trintellix is an antidepressant, it may lead to opposite symptoms which is the thought of suicide. This happens when irregular doses are taken. Also, this occurs in underage children who weren’t supposed to take the antidepressant in the first place. although this side effect is rare, it may happen because Trintellix is a boxed warning, which is the most serious warning issued by the Food and Drug Administrator (FDA).

Call your doctor or 911 immediately because you do not want to lose the life of a dear one because of their suicidal thoughts.

Weight gain

You must be aware that weight gain is not a side effect of Trintellix but rather a side effect of depression. Most bodies swell after having depression attacks because of mental and eating disorders.

Even though, weight gain can be controlled by taking a healthy diet and exercising daily. Fun fact, these two practices can also help cure depression to a great extent.

Itching

This is also a rare side effect experienced by a few of the many who take Trintellix. Those who experience this side effect should visit a doctor who will be able to prescribe a few medicines to stop the itching.

Headache

Headache is a common side effect experienced by those who take Trintellix as an antidepressant. However, it needs to be properly diagnosed whether the headache was caused by the drug or other stress involvements. Then, it needs to be diagnosed whether headaches form before taking the drug or after. Only then will the headache be properly cured.

Headaches may be a sign of low sodium levels which is a side effect of Trintellix.

Allergic reactions

Allergic reactions due to Trintellix may include:

  • Rash
  • Itchiness
  • Swelling of the skin
  • Hives  etc.,

Visiting your doctor will help see whether you should stop taking the drug or not.

Conclusion

Trintellix is a heavy antidepressant that causes many side effects that may be cured by self-precautions but it is better to consult a doctor before taking any kind of measures. I hope this article helped you realize not to take Trintellix without a doctor’s recommendation.
